A capitation payment is a fixed amount of money paid in advance per patient to a healthcare provider, regardless of how many services the patient actually uses. It’s a preemptive approach to healthcare costs, where providers are given a set amount for each enrolled individual, often monthly. The idea is to incentivize efficient care management, as the provider keeps the same amount regardless of whether the patient requires numerous visits or none at all.
