You don’t need a long list of qualifications. Instead, if you like solving problems and helping people, you may be a great fit.

About the Role

We are seeking an outstanding Staff Software Engineer to serve as the lead engineer and primary technical mentor for a dedicated squad of 2–5 engineers. This is a highly hands-on, full-stack product engineering role with strong DevOps responsibilities. You’ll combine deep technical ownership with leadership to deliver reliable, customer-focused features while maintaining and improving our production systems.

You will be the go-to technical leader for your squad: writing code daily, guiding architectural decisions, mentoring team members, and taking end-to-end ownership of the product area — from understanding customer needs to ensuring the system is observable, reliable, and performant in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the leading engineer for a squad of 2–5 engineers, providing technical direction, code reviews, architectural guidance, and career mentorship
  • Own the full product engineering lifecycle for your squad’s area:
    • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and customers to deeply understand user needs and translate them into high-impact features
    • Design, implement, test, and deploy full-stack solutions (frontend, backend, APIs, infrastructure)
    • Take strong ownership interest in the quality, reliability, and success of the work
  • Champion and embody modern engineering practices:
    • Agile development with iterative delivery and continuous discovery
    • Pair/mob programming and constructive code reviews as learning opportunities
    • Effective use of AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate development while upholding quality and security
    • Test-driven development and comprehensive automated testing
  • Embrace DevOps responsibilities:
    • Participate in on-call rotation and lead troubleshooting / incident response for your squad’s services
    • Build and maintain observability dashboards, alerts, metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing
    • Drive reliability, performance, and scalability improvements in production
  • Help shape technical strategy, standards, and best practices across the broader engineering organization
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience as a software engineer building and shipping production web/cloud products
  • Strong full-stack expertise (modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem strongly preferred):
    • Frontend: React/Next.js or equivalent modern frameworks
    • Backend: Node.js, Python (FastAPI/Flask), Go, or similar
    • Databases & infrastructure: PostgreSQL, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), containerization
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring small engineering teams (2–5+ engineers) as a technical lead
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset: understanding customer problems, driving solutions end-to-end, and caring deeply about outcomes
  • Hands-on experience with production operations:
  • On-call / incident management
  • Building observability (metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards)
  • Comfort with collaborative modern practices: pair programming, CI/CD, trunk-based development
  • Experience integrating AI coding assistants into daily workflow
  • Excellent communication: able to align engineers, product, and stakeholders around technical and business decisions

Nice-to-Haves

  • Prior Staff/Lead Engineer experience in a product-focused company
  • Experience with SRE practices, SLOs, or reliability engineering
  • Background in design systems, performance optimization, or domain-driven design
  • Open-source contributions or public technical writing
